Exactly 2 years ago, I upgraded my basement's computer workstation from a pile of junk to a nice workbench. While it was awesome to have an actual desk to assemble stuff, I eventually ran out of storage space for new computers. Thus, for 2024, I invested in a new metal shelf & reconfigured the basement once more. Now that I've finally got both the storage situation & the plumbing situation fixed, I'll finally be able to get some brand new equipment for 2024.
Here's the new shelf, with about 90% of my stuff moved over from the workbench. For context, this is what the setup looked like in late 2022, and this is what it looked like in 2021. I also bought a little storage bin organizer thing, to clean up all of my cables & such. Even though I don't have the exact organization of stuff figured out yet, it's already so much better to have everything on shelves & bins, instead of random cardboard boxes & a file cabinet.
The workbench will still be put to use, but I'm afraid that I might replace the CRT monitor with an LCD. It just takes up so much desk space, plus it has major issues with burn-in & turning itself off at random times. Not unexpected, since I found it inside a dumpster.
Also, my family got me this as a Christmas gift: a little Hyundai branded fanless mini PC. The specs of it are fairly basic (Celeron N4020, 4GB RAM) but it'll make a great secondary Linux PC or perhaps even home server. In the future, I'll have a full article on it once I get it up & running.
Thanks y'all for a great 2023. The frequency of content has been a bit sparse at times, but I'm still happy to upload content when I can find the time. In 2024, I'll hopefully have even more e-scrap junk in my basement to feature on this site.
