HTC SMT5800

I bought this old HTC slider phone new in box off eBay a couple years back, but until recently, I hadn't messed around with it that much. Even though I try to keep this site PC focused, I figured I should feature this old brick while I finish up the other article I've been working on.

The HTC phone, with the keyboard retracted.

The small crack at the top of the screen was caused by it falling on to my chair one day. Anyways, one thing that makes this phone unique is that it runs Windows Mobile, Microsoft's early attempted venture in to the mobile OS market in the 2000s.

The HTC running Solitaire.

Unfortunately, there's no particularly interesting apps on it. There's no way to connect it to the internet anymore, either.

The camera on this phone is about what you'd expect for 2008. Still images aren't terrible, but the video quality is hilariously bad. It wasn't until I imported a video to my main computer that I realized just how terrible the video quality is.

An image from the HTC of my broken Intel Desktop Board. An image from the HTC of some brush in my backyard.

Here's a couple images from the phone, scaled down in HTML to fit on the page. 1200x1600 resolution, not too bad.

The camera shoots video at 176x144 resolution, the same as my Compaq webcam from the late 90s. The low framerate & bitrate make this phone's camera extra horrendous, though. Here's a YouTube upload of my test video.

I'll have some desktop computer related stuff up on the site soon. If everything goes as planned, it'll be up by the end of April.
