Sony VAIO Keyboard - Back to Home

Many years ago, probably around 2018, I rescued a very cool old Pentium 4 Sony VAIO desktop from the trash. Unfortunately, it was completely wrecked on the inside (possibly water damage induced) and did not work. I was able to save a couple minor parts from it, such as the floppy & CD drives, but the rest went straight back to the dumpster. Even though the computer was trash, I still kept the matching keyboard that it came with. Though it's not particularly interesting, I thought I'd show it off, since a lot of people are in to old Sony computer stuff.

The Sony keyboard.

In case you're wondering, the matching desktop looked something like this. I had never properly cleaned it off since I got it, so the keyboard was absolutely disgusting. As a recommendation, using industrial degreaser helps clean stuff far faster than just regular alcohol wipes or Windex. The keyboard feels pretty mushy, since I'm sure the 20+ year old membrane is completely worn out.

The extra keys of the keyboard.

My favorite old keyboards are the ones with 20 different special buttons for every program imaginable. You'd have a dedicated button for every media folder, specific websites, games, calculator, even Windows Movie Maker. This one isn't quite as extreme, but it's notable nonetheless.

In the next few weeks, I'll finally have at least 1 of 2 projects I'm working on done, so I'll hopefully have more interesting content soon.
