Magnavox CD130MW8 TV: Part 2 - Back to Home

Back in September 2023, I got an old Magnavox CRT TV for free from a yard sale. I never bothered to clean it off or do anything with it, so it sat in my garage for over a year collecting even more dust. Well, this week, I finally spent the time to get it fixed up & installed in the basement.

The Magnavox TV outside, in the process of being decontaminated.

To make it easier to move in & out of the house, I put it on a skateboard to wheel around. Since it's only a 13" CRT, it's really not that heavy, but without any handle to grab it, it's very awkward to carry around. The cleaning process wasn't immensely difficult, but it still took a good 20 or 30 minutes.

The error on the Magnavox due to the antenna.

I plugged in an antenna, but I lost the remote at the time, so I couldn't do the channel scan to actually get it working. When it failed to get a signal, it gave this error, which reminded me of text from an NES game. Since it has a digital TV tuner, once I do a channel scan, it should be able to receive signal without a problem.

The Magnavox playing a DVD.

I had to search for a few minutes to finally find a DVD to test it, but the DVD player worked fine.

The entire basement setup, with the 2 CRTs.

With 2 CRTs now, the basement looks a lot more impressive. As you can see in that photo, my workbench is an massive landfill of junk right now. At some point, I'm going to buy a 2nd organizer to store all my lights & screwdrivers, and also untangle all the cables that run to the power strip.

Soon enough, I'll have a much longer article documenting my second computer thrift store adventure. It was a busy January, but this February, I should have a fair amount of free time to dedicate to computer stuff.
