ME on the Pavilion 7840 - Back to Home

I ran Windows XP on the HP Pavilion 7840 in my basement simply because the only install CD I had on hand when I got that machine was for XP. Because I already have plenty of XP machines, I decided to install the OS that it originally shipped with, that being Windows ME.

The old Pavilion.

I'll make a full page on the Pavilion at some point, but for now, here's just it's specs:

Creating the WinME boot floppy was the hardest part of the entire process; WinImage refused to write the .img for whatever reason, so I had to use PowerISO instead. After that was out of the way, everything went surprisingly well.

ME formatting the HDD.

Drive formatting took at least 30 minutes, but that was to be expected. After the rest of setup went by, WinME displayed a very 90s tour video on 1st boot:

ME's very retro-looking tour video.

Even though ME was widely regarded as a disaster of an OS, it's been flawless for me so far. If it ends up breaking itself at some point, I'll update this page.

This is just a filler write-up until I finish more interesting things I'm working on.
